Press Release

The Rehabilitation of the Depot Street Bridge has reached a major milestone. The structural repairs to the underside of the bridge is completed. Currently work is proceeding on the installation of the concrete curbing on both sides of the bridge. The next major phase of the project will be painting the bridge. The underside will be painted first. This will start in early spring. The top side of the bridge will then be painted in two stages. First, the northerly half and then the southerly half. Afterwards, some roadway approach improvements will be complete the project.

Selectman's Corner

As we recently celebrated the July 4th Holiday, the realization hits us that summer is more then half over.

I am continuing to urge all residents and visitors to keep on taking extra precautions when you travel on the Depot Street Bridge. If you are leaving the Pent Road Recreation Complex after a baseball or softball game, please use the Lopus Road and Pinesbridge Roads to alleviate the serious traffic backups on the bridge.

The bridge renovation has passed the half way mark and we are looking forward to having traffic back to normal as we drive on Main Street and over that bridge. Because this project has taken many years it is a welcome relief to see that the end is almost in sight. I want to thank all of you for your patience and understanding throughout this entire process.

As we begin to think about the fall season approaching, it is time to plan for the Annual Duck Race and Riverfest to be held on October 2nd. Plans are on-going to make the event even better with the continuation of the parade of ducks as part of the festivities.

With the passage of very tight 2010/2011 Municipal Budget, I have urged all Town Department Heads, Boards and Commissions and Consultants to keep their individual budgets in check and continue our goal of responsible fiscal management.

In the spirit of "Think Globally, Shop Locally", I am urging everyone to support your local businesses. A drive through our Main Street will show you the economic commitment these businesses have made to our Community as they renovate their location to attract a wide range of shoppers and diners.
